Sanjeev Nanda : Google Play Music now Streams in India
After introducing the Play Music store in India
last year, Google has now finally launched Google Play Music All Access - the
company's music subscription service - in the country.
While the ability buy albums and songs has been
available to customers in India for quite some time, Google took their sweet
time to introduce streaming services in India.
Google Play Music All Access allows users to
stream Google's full library of songs without any restrictions. It allows users
to find music by language or by their favourite Bollywood artists and music
directors and even lets them watch videos right in the same app. Additionally,
Google Play Music also offers playlists based on a user's personal music
tastes.
Google Play Music uses minimal data when being
used via mobile data and also allows users to download songs offline. It also
comes with a very useful feature, which presents users with an offline playlist
based on what they have listened to recently, even if they did not download
those songs beforehand.
The streaming space in India is already populated
by competitors such as Saavn, Gaana, Airtel Music as well as the formidable
Apple Music, whose Android version just received a comprehensive update
yesterday giving it a new coat of paint and added features. Even Amazon is set
to join the party soon with its Prime Music service sometime in 2018.
Streaming services are taking India by storm.
According to consulting firm Delloite, music streaming services in India are
expected to have a whopping 273 million subscribers by 2020.
While Google might be late to the game, it has a few aces up its sleeve. It is
currently one of the cheapest music streaming services, with a disruptive price
of just Rs 89/month. In comparison, Apple Music costs Rs 120 per month for a
single subscription (Rs 60 if you are a student) and Rs 190 per month for a
family subscription, while Ganna charge Rs 99 per month for its Gaana +
service.
